Finally SEAT has confirmed that they are gearing up for the launch of LEON based SUV in 2016

It is a likely an official confirmation after years of wait and revealing of several concepts. SEAT has confirmed that they will introduce the LEON based SUV from the same MQB platform used by LEON. The all new SEAT SUV will expect to arrive in the showrooms in 2016 with a range of Seat Leon engines. It is confirmed by SEAT officials that the new model will be available in both diesel and petrol variants with four cylinders. The new SUV is under process at engineering and development facility in Martorell, Spain. Last year in a preview event of SEAT, an early design model was presented which was surprisingly similar to the size of Nissan Qashqai and styling like LEON FR hatchback.

This time it has flatter wheel arches; silver rails on the roof and body claddings made of plastic, all these features are there to provide stronger standpoints to the SUV. The headlights are exclusively complicated with LED lights similar to the LEON. It is still named as ‘TRIBU’ after the initial concept but an insider told that the SUV will be introduced with an entirely new name.

Vice President for R&D Matthias Raab said, “The SUV would be a big push for the brand towards maintaining profitability, and that it was part of the plan to focus on key volume segments rather than developing too many niche models.”

Matthias Raab further added to the discussion that it will be “the final pillar of the SEAT brand” and would trait both common drive options with front wheel drive and all wheel drive, and both transmissions with manual and auto configurations just like the other models on the frivolous MQB platform.

Another concept version is likely to unveil at Geneva Motor Show next year and the production version on the Frankfurt Motor Show 2015.
