The 1971 Ford Mustang Shelby GT was ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’ but the 2015 Ford Mustang has beaten that by going in just 30 seconds. Yes 30 seconds it took for the first 500 2015 Ford Mustang models bound for Europe to sold out. The order books opened during last Saturday’s Champions League Final and more than 9,300 people registered for a chance to get behind the wheel of the new muscle car. The result of the football match was: Real Madrid beat rivals Atletico Madrid 4-1.

The final was the first occasion in Ford’s history when it was sold across Europe. Ford promoted the new Mustang by allocating 500 new Mustangs across 20 countries. Each successful potential customer will then be invited to finalise their order at a dealership later this year, ready to receive their version of the sports car in 2015.

“We knew there was huge excitement building for the new Ford Mustang coming to Europe, but the response during the UCL Final was overwhelming,” said Roelant de Waard, Ford’s vice president in Europe for marketing, sales and service.

“It was a truly special way to kick off the Ford Mustang era in Europe.”

The choice of colours is limited to Race Red for coupe models while Convertible drivers will get Magnetic Silver – the 2015 Mustang’s launch colours, with both variants set to include a special package. The customers will get a choice of Ford’s new 305bhp 2.3 litre Ford EcoBoost engine with 407Nm of torque or the more powerful 5.0 litre V8, churning out 420bhp and 529Nm.

Each of the first 500 European-spec Mustangs will feature the brand’s SYNC 2 connectivity and navigation system, heated and ventilated seats, Park Assist technology, black leather trim, chrome detailing and 19-inch alloys. Mustang fans that have missed out, the good news is the Mustang will go on general sale in showrooms from early next year, and is expected to start at around £30,000.
